My competition ended yesterday with the 800 free. I swam a pretty good race but in the end, I think I was just out of gas. I finished 5th overall with a personal best non-bodysuit time. I think I could have been a lot faster if I wasn’t working on over 5 weeks of taper. Anyways, it’s relaxing to be finished. Overall, I had a decent competition and way better than 2006 Pan Pacs.
This morning the team assembled at the open water venue to support those competing. I have never seen a 10k race so it was definitely interesting and much different than pool swimming. First off, the course was a straight shot of buoys 1km long, so a complete circle was 2km. The water was allegedly 65 degrees and the sun was shining. Part of me wished I was competing but part of me said don’t be stupid. I have never raced open water, or any event near that far, so there’s no telling how I would fair. I guess if I ever want to find out I’ll have to saddle up for one though. Our team did awesome, sweeping the women’s medals and going first and second in the men’s. The best part was watching the last 500 meters as it turned into an all-out sprint to the finish. Most of the guys after the race were shivering like crazy, which made me really happy I didn’t enter. The whole race took about 2 hours.
Tonight I am flying out on the red-eye so that should be fun…not. I’m just hoping to pass out and wake up upon landing. It’s been a long trip, but definitely a fun experience. I’m looking forward to a little break and the start of college football!
Good race last night! All the staff at the pool was cheering for you. Hope you had a memorable time here in Irvine
this isn’t about the pan pacs but i had a ton of fun working on freestyle with you at the fitter and faster tour!!!
